JAMES HENRY PRESTON

James Henry Preston, 85, resident of Oil Springs, died in King’s
Daughters’ Hospital, Ashland, at 3:15 a.m., Thursday, September 27,
after an illness of three months. The son of the late James and Ella
Price Preston, he was born at Offutt. A member of the United Baptist
Church, he was formerly employed as a teacher and mine foreman.
He was first married to the former Stella Dawson, who preceded him in
death February 26, 1929. His second wife, Georgian Rice Preston,
preceded him in death may 25, 1958.
Survivors include four sons, Homer Preston, Toledo, OH; Forest
Preston, Bluefield, WV; J. R. Preston, Chicago, IL; James Cecil
Preston, Russell; Roosevelt Preston, Oil Springs, two daughters, Lena
Mellon, Catlettsburg; Irene Hugh, Ashland; two brothers, Forest
Preston, Offutt; Garland Preston, Paintsville; Elizabeth Golden,
Sioux Fall, SD.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the United
Baptist church in this city with Cully Sparks and O. I. Williams as
officiating ministers.
Burial was in the Price Cemetery.
