Short Illness Fatal To Baptist Minister and Mortician.
Guy W. Preston, 62, well known throughout Johnson county and a
resident of Paintsville for many years succumbed, at his home on
Short Street Monday, October 27, following an illness of six weeks.
Born December 31, 1889 in the Toms Creek section of Johnson County he
was the son of Dr. J.M. and Mary Lemaster Preston.
He had been a minister in the United Baptist Church for more than 30
years and for several years published and distributed Baptist
Tidings, a religious publication. He was a devout believer in the
principles of Christianity and worked tirelessly for the church.
He established the Mountain Furniture and Hardware Company and was
its president until 1938 when he opened the Guy Preston Funeral Home.
He was also coroner of Johnson County for eight years.
Surviving are his wife, Claretta Arnette Preston, one daughter,
Emojean Preston Knight, two sons, Guy Monroe, and James Leighton, and
one granddaughter, Moonyean Willis.
Other survivors include two brothers, Dr. T. R. Preston,
Lowmansville, and John Langley Preston of Sitka, and hundreds of
friends throughout this section who will be saddened to learn of his
passing.
Funeral Services were conducted at the home at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday
with Mose C. Ward, Roscoe Lemaster and Garland Preston as officiating
ministers.
Interment was made in the family cemetery at Lowmansville under the
direction of the Kelley and Caudill Funeral Home of Salyersville.
