William H. McKenzie 84, Dies After Long Life Of Service
Baptist Minister Had Held Many Positions Of Trust
William H. McKenzie, 84, widely known Johnson County man, died at 5:30, March 24, 1964 at his home at Turner Branch after a long illness.
Before his retirement, he had served the city and county in many responsible positions.
He had been County Tax Commissioner, Master Commissioner of the Circuit Court, and secretary of the Paintsville City Schools.
Mr. McKenzie was born February 25, 1880, a son of Francis Marion and Sarah Lemaster McKenzie.
He had been a minister in the United Baptist Church since 1937, and had served the Paint Union Association as clerk for 30 years. He was a member and Past Master of Masonic Lodge F & A.M. 381, and was a member of the Paintsville Chapter, Royal Arch Masons, and Paintsville Commandery, Knights Templar.
He was married on December 24, 1901 to Louise Elizabeth Williams who survives.
Also surviving are a son, John W. McKenzie, Columbus, Ohio, two daughters, Mrs. Henry Owens, Paintsville, Mrs. Milton Hamilton, Louisville, nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. One daughter, Jewell Temple McKenzie, died in infancy. Active pallbearers were John Spears, Chandler Salyer, Sanford Williams, Charlie Conley, Arnold Reed, Wilton Nicely and Carl Bell. Honorary pallbearers: Gaylord Pack, Lawrence Daniel, Tracy Pack, Ray Turner, Lloyd Williams, Bert McKenzie, Ross Hobart, G. Picklesimer, Paul Stafford, James H. Franklin, Fred Adams, Frank Patrick, Wendell Nichols, Jess Songer and Millard Vance.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Paintsville United Baptist Church.
Officiating ministers were O.I. Williams, Lonza Reed, and Tammy Bailey.
Interment was in the family cemetery at Volga.
