DANIEL MARION HAGER

"Monday at 6 o'clock a. m. Daniel Marion Hager, died at his home in
this city, after an illness of a few years. His death was expected at
most any time."

"For the past few years he had been in bad health, being confined to
his home the most of the time.

During his sickness he has had the best of attention his devoted wife
having given up everything to make him comfortable in his declining
years.

Uncle Dan as he was known to all our people, was loved, and respected
by everybody. His friends were numbered by his acquaintances. Few men
have lived to such an age and lived such a devoted Christian life."

"Dan M. Hager was born in this county July 9th, 1840 and died
February 23rd, 1914. He was a son of Daniel M. Hager, his mother
before her marriage was Violet Porter. He was married in 1866 to Mary
J. Borders and to this union was born Geo. W., S. P. and Ben Butler
Hager. He was married again in 1875 to Jesse Vaughan and to this
union was born Eugene, Virgie L. and Robert Hager. He was married
again in 1888 and to this union was born Edna and Russell Hager."

"All the children will be present at the funeral and burial. The
floral offering was beautiful and many good words of praise for the
good deeds done by this good man when he was in his health."

"During his business career he was considered one of the best
business men in the Big Sandy Valley. His business was successful as
were all his undertakings in life. His devotion to his church, of
which he was a supporter and one of the oldest members was
beautiful."

"In his death this section lost a good man. His family was one of the
oldest and most prominent in Kentucky."

"He was a soldier in the Union Army, a Mason of high standing and
above all a true Christian gentleman."

"On account of being snow bound Robert Hager, who resides in Iowa,
did not arrive here until Wednesday night and as a result the funeral
was postponed from Wednesday to Thursday. The services will be
conducted at the M. E. Church this (Thursday) afternoon."

"S. P. Hager, Sr., and wife of Ashland, S. P. Hager, Jr., and wife of
Huntington, and other relatives are here to attend the funeral."

"The Masonic Lodge will have charge of the burial. Rev. Carder, M. E.
Church, will preach the funeral ad the remains of one of
Paintsville's founders and builders will be laid to rest in the old
cemetery above town."
