Beverly L. Gibson, 74, of Main Street passed away May 22 at 11:45
p.m. in a local hospital where he had been a patient for the past
four months.

A victim of pneumonia, he had been in ill health for the past few
years after suffering a stroke at his home here.

Mr. Gibson came to this county with his family in 1911 and resided
at Van Lear where he was a faithful employee of the Consolidation
Coal Company for 41 years.

After retiring from his work there he moved to this city, where he
was held in high esteem by all who knew him. Unassuming and patient,
he was a devoted husband and father, and a benevolent neighbor.

Born in Jonesville, Lee County, Virginia, Dec. 20, 1876, Mr. Gibson
was the son of William and Sarah E. Spencer Gibson.

He was married to Allie Mae Stephens of Carter County in October,
1901.

He was a member of the Christian Church and the Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, one son, James Ewing Gibson, Middletown,
Ohio, one daughter, Mrs. W. H. Brown, Detroit, Mich., two grandsons
and two granddaughters, Billy Brown, of Cincinnati, O., Cpl. Robert
Brown, Cherry Point, N. C., Mrs. Robert B. Kegan, Baltimore, Md.,
and Mrs. Louise Piepmeyer, Cincinnati, O., and a brother Lee Gibson,
of Tampa, Fla. Also surviving are three great- grandsons, and one
great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon, May 25, at 2:00
p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home by J. H. Short.

Burial was made in the Club Hill cemetery at Van Lear under the
direction of the Jones Funeral Home.
