Rites Held For
Staffordsville's Grass Burchett
Grass Burchett, 86, died at 11:00 a.m. June 26 1965, at his home.
Born December 10 1878, he was the son of David and Amanda Stapleton
Burchett, and a resident of Staffordsville 20 years.
He was affiliated with the United Baptist Church and a retired employee
of Louisville Gas and Electric Company.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ida Williams Burchett, who died
December 9 1964.
Survivors include three sons, Willard Burchett, Staffordsville; Ralph
Burchett, Laconia, Ind.; and Winifred Burchett, Maulbraugh, Ky.; five
daughters, Mrs. Sonny Stapleton, Red Bush; Mrs. Bruce Lemaster,
Brandenburg; Mrs. Larry Williams, Springfield, Ohio; Mrs. Melvin Jayne,
Vine Grove; and Mrs. Walter Jackson Jr., Wahiawa, Hawaii.
Other survivors are two brothers, Lonnie and Tolvie Burchett, Elna, Ky.;
two sisters, Lottie VanHoose, Elna, Ky.; and Ella Rice, Volga.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. June 28 in the Old Union Church,
Staffordsville, with the Rev. Lonza Reed, Rev. Lloyd Williams, and Rev.
Tommy Bailey officiating.
Grandsons of Mr. Burchett served as pallbearers.
Burial was in the Patty Flat Cemetery, under the
direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home.
