Dennis Castle Died: Wednesday, March 25, 2009 Age: 85 INDIANA — Dennis Castle, 85, of Wabash, Ind., died Wednesday, March 25, at Manatee Memorial Hospital, Bradenton, Fla. Born Dec. 20, 1923, at Offutt, he was the son of the late Marion and Gertrude Bowling Castle. He worked at Kearney Inc./Wabash Magentics, was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the Church of Our Savior United Methodist Church, both of Wabash; and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rose Blue; seven brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include his wife, Dortha M. Castle of Wabash; a son, Dennis M. Castle of Culver City, Ind.; three daughters, Joann Coburn of Lake Jackson, Texas, Mary Kirk of Alvin, Texas, and Ellen Tyner of Indianapolis, Ind.; a brother, John Castle of Sun City, Ariz.; two sisters, Gertrude Preston of Paintsville and Alice Waterman of New Gloucester, Maine; and a grandson. Funeral services were Monday, March 30, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, with Phil Lake officiating. Burial was in Paw Paw Cemetery, under direction of Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash. He was born Dec. 20, 1923, in Offutt, Ky., to Marion and Gertrude (Boling) Castle. Dennis married Dortha M. Zinn in Fort Wayne on May 29, 1950. He was a graduate of Van Lear High School, in Van Lear, Ky. He served 27 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a master sergeant. Dennis also retired from Kearney Inc./Wabash Magnetics in April 1989. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and a longtime member of the Church of Our Savior United Methodist, both of Wabash. He enjoyed golfing and playing games. He had a vegetable garden and enjoyed sharing his canned vegetables with others. He is survived by his wife, Dortha M. Castle, Wabash; four children, Dennis M. Castle, Culver City, Calif., Joann (Michael) Coburn, Lake Jackson, Texas, Mary (Michael) Kirk, Alvin, Texas, and Ellen (Dennis) Tyner, Indianapolis; one grandson, Jason (Alicia) Rogers, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, John Castle, Sun City, Ariz.; and two sisters, Gertrude Preston, Paintsville, Ky., and Alice Waterman of Maine. He was preceded in death by his daughter Rose Blue, who died Aug. 26, 2003, and two brothers. Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash Chapel, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash, on Monday, March 30, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Phil Lake will officiate.
