FRANK "HYLO" BROWN, JR. 80, of Mechanicsburg, Ohio, passed from this life to eternal life on Friday, January 11 2003 at Mercy Medical center of Springfield following several years of failing health. He was born April 20 1922 in Paintsville Kentucky, the oldest child of Frank and Eliz- abeth (Van Hoose) Brown, who preceded him in death along will a brother. Marvin; sis- ter. Flora Bailey; and his wife. Elizabeth Brown. Hylo spent many years in the coun- try music industry as a Bluegrass country music singer and guitar player. Performing in many parts of the world. He was a mem- ber of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys. He was also a per- former with lhe Grand Old Opry. In later years, he performed on his own, coming out with a number one hit. "Lost To A Stranger". The song was later recorded by Ricky Skaggs. His career spanned four decades. A tribute was held back in March 2002 in Mechanicsburg to honor his accomplish- ments. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Kentucky Hall of Fame. Hylo is also memorialized on the Country Music Highway 23. which runs through Paintsville, Kentucky, in Johnson County, along with Crystal Gayle and Loretta Lynn. Survivors include one son. William Timothy (Liz) Brown of Springfield. Four daughters. Candy (Jay) Holley of Jacksonville. Florida, Vicky (Jerry) Mead of Love Park, Illinois, Sheila Fay Brown of Mechanicsburg. and Mandy Jane Ward also of Mechanicsburg: grand- children, Jeff and Kim Holley ofCincinnati, Amy and Mike Crum of Orlando, Florida, Wendy and David Mullins of Love Park, Illinois. Amy and Belva Wolf of Charleston, West Virginia. J.R., Amanda and Jesse Frank Hylo Brown all of Mechaniosburg. one great-grands on. J. Michael Crum of Orlando. Florida, two step-daughters, Phyllis ~ Lyons of Waverly, Ohio and Anna Mary Wilson of Jackson. Ohio; two brothers, Marshall and Kathleen Brown of Springfield, Russell and Carlene Brown of Lexington Ohio. one sister. Lorrame and Denzel Ross of Lima, Ohio. a host of nieces and neph- ews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many dear friends. Hylo will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him and his music. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. January 21, 2003 at the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMO- RIAL HOME of Springfield with Chaplain Dick McDanieI officiaimg.
