1638 Inventory of Zachary Mottershead

Zachary Mottershead is the earliest known Mothershead in the New World. He was in the household of Lord Calvert in St. Marys County, Maryland in the 1630s, and in 1635 "Zachary Mottershead, one of Governor Calvert's chief men, read aloud the provisions of the Maryland Charter" [source: "Virginia Historical Genealogies", by John Bennett Boddie]. Zachary Mottershead died early in 1638. There is no proof known as yet to indicate that Zachary Mottershead had a family with him in Virginia at the time of his death.
