Thomas B. Mothershead
served as a Private in Co. I, 45th. Alabama Infantry, C.S.A.
From Frances Ellington, Corsicana, TX:
Thomas B. Mothershead left Alabama and came to Texas where
several other Mothersheads were already living... The story goes that
Thomas B. convinced Charles Ellington, his son-in-law, to come to
Corsicana. Oil had been discovered in Texas and things were really booming.
Charles went first to look things over, then went back to Alabama to get
his wife, Georgia, and their three children. In 1900, the two families were
living about two blocks from each other. Charles Ellington was also a carpenter.
He built oil derricks and homes for several years.
Sometime after 1900, the Mothersheads bought some farm
land and moved out of town, about ten miles to the Eurika community. They
lived there until their death in 1910. A few years before this, Charles and
Georgia moved into the house with Thomas and Milly to help take care of them
because of their health. Thomas Mothershead gave the farm to his three Ellington
grandchildren but specified that Charles and Georgia could live there as
long as they wished. After the death of the Mothersheads, Charles and Georgia
moved back to Corsicana. Georgia died in 1919 and is buried next to her father
and step mother. Charles Ellington moved back to the farm and married Daisy
McNeill who had lived near the farm for several years. They remained there
until his death in 1940.

The parents of Thomas B. Mothershead were James "Jim" Mothershead and
Elizabeth Victoria Davis. All seven of the sons of James and Eliza
Mothershead served in the Confederate Army. Only three lived to return
home.
