Marriages from Wills & Sources Other than Marriage Bonds & Licenses: 1. Ann Mothershead to Willam MORTON prior to 1740 [source: Genealogies of Virginia Families From The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Volume IV Healy - Pryor; indexed by Toby Drews; Genealogical Publishing Co; 1981; Chapter: "The Morton Patriarchs of Virginia" by Daniel Morton, M.D. of St. Joseph MO] It should also be noted that Alvin MOTHERSHEAD, had extensive land transactions with William MORTON and in Alvin MOTHERSHEAD's Will of 1734 filed in Richmond County VA, he left land to William MORTON's children.)
Please Note: It is my personal opinion is that the Ann MOTHERSHEAD referred to above was NOT born a Mothershead, but was actually Ann BATCHELOR, daughter of Mary and Thomas BATCHELOR/BATCHELDER. I can find nothing yet to prove that William MORTON married into the MOTHERSHEAD family. My personal opinion is that many years ago another researcher jumped to the conclusion that Ann "must" have been born a Mothershead simply because Alvin MOTHERSHEAD, in his Will of 1734, left land to Ann and William Morton's children, including Alvin's GODSON, George MORTON. However, I believe that if there was an actual blood relationship to Ann, then that familial relationship would have been mentioned in Alvin's Will, not just the term "Godson". If you can prove what Alvin's relationship really was to Ann and William MORTON, I'd really appreciate it if you'd email me! :) |
