Pierce Mothershead Family Ties
George Henry Mothershead was born November 1839 in Richmond County, Virginia and died December 05, 1887 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He was the son of James Henry Mothershead who was born 1792 in Richmond County, Virginia.
George Henry Mothershead first entered service 22 August, 1861, in the 55th Virginia Infantry (Westmorland Grays). The Confederate Army Department, Washington Sept. 6, 1912 states the following: The records show that George H Mothershead, Private, Company G. 15th Regiment of Virginia reenlisted 23 Feb. 1863. He served under Col. William Collins and Captain G.W. Cook and was captured near Ashland Virginia on 11 May 1864 and was turned over to the Asist.Provost Marshall at Fort Monroe, Va 15 May 1864. He was sent to the prison camp at Point Lookout, Maryland, possibly escaped and found his way back to Westmoreland by the end of the war. On September 4th 1912 his widow, Luticia Reamy Mothershead, at the age of 74 applied for a widow's pension and received $50.
