| Unfortunately, neither the
dates, nor the names of the papers these were torn from, were recorded, though perhaps the shoe ad will provide someone with a clue (and don't I wish we could still buy shoes for that price! :::grin:::). We do know the clippings are a minimum of 60+ years old, since my dad stored them away back in 1935/6 in a box of letters. We assume these were friends of his, since we don't yet know of them as being relatives.

The text of this did not scan in very clearly. I will rescan it soon and try to get a sharper image. The text reads: Cook-Allen The engagement of Miss Vauntella Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene T. Cook of Hillsboro, Ill., to Monroe D. Allen, son of Mrs. Louise L. Allen of St. Louis, was announced at a Christmas dinner given by Miss Cook's mother. Miss Cook is a graduate of Illinois State Normal University. Mr. Allen is a graduate of Missouri Military Academy, Mexico, Mo., and a former student of Washington University Architerctural School.
