Transcription of Probate of Estate for Clifton Mothershead
State of Missouri, County of Jefferson

Date entered into Probate: 1 October 1838

John L. Mathews, Clerk of the County Court within and for the County of Jefferson in the State of Missouri. To all to whom these presents shall come Greeting. Whereas Clifton Mothershead late of the County of Jefferson , deceased, died intestate as it is said leaving a widow & five children as his heirs at Law and you Patsey Mothershead & Whitaker Mothershead having given sufficient security, I do therefore give and grant unto you the said Patsey Mothershead & Whitaker Mothershead full power and authority to Administer all and singular the lands & tenemants, goods, chattels, rights, credits, of the said deceased and to demand, collect, and in a legal manner require and receive all and all manner of de(?) and debts due and owing to the said deceased and to demand, collect, and well and faithfully to dispose of the same according to law. And lastly I do hereby institute and appoint you the said Patsey Mothershead & Whitaker Mothershead Administrators of all and singular the goods, chattels, rights and credits of the deceased. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and official seal at Herculaneum this first day of October in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty eight and of the American Independance the sixty third.

Know all men by these Presents that we Martha Mothershead & Whitaker Mothershead as principals, and we Washington Johnson and Willis Martin as securities are held and firmly bound unto the State of Missouri in the full and just sum of four thousand dollars to the payment whereof we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, administrators and assigns. Jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated Herculaneum this first day of October 1838.

The condition of the above bond is that if Patsey Mothershead & Whitaker Mothershead Administrators of the Estate of Clifton Mothershead, deceased, shall faithfully administer said estate, account for, pay and deliver all money and property of said Estate, and perform all other things trusting said Administration required by Law or the order of any Court having jurisdiction then the above bond to be void, otherwise to remain in full force.

This day personally appeared before me the Clerk of the County Court for the County of Jefferson the undersigned Martha Mothershead & Whitaker Mothershead who being by me duly sworn upon their oath do say that to the best of their knowledge there are six heirs of Clifton Mothershead, deceased, vis Martha Mothershead the widow, Thomas, John, Willis, Charles & Lucy Mothershead the children of said deceased, and that to the best of their knowledge that the said deceased died without a will as far as they know and believe and that will well and truly adminster all and singular the goods and chattels, rights and credits of the said deceased and pay over the debts as far as the assets which may come to their hands a (unreadable) will extend and the law direct that they will make a true and perfect inventory of all the goods and chattels, rights and credits of the said deceased and account for and pay over according to Law, all assets which shall come to their hands (unreadable) or knowledge.
