W. H. Capshaw dies at home in Brandesville

The death last monday night of W. H. Capshaw has cast a sorrow over the little home town in which he lived for many years, a quiet, respected and beloved citizen.

Mr. Capshaw has been a member of the Baptist Church for a great meny years, but being very deaf, during the last few years rarely left his home. However, his Bible was almost a constant study to him and he talked a great deal to those around him of its teachings.

His wife, eight children and numerous grandchildren survive him. The children are four sons, Ira, of Chaffe, Mo., Jack, of Commerce Okla., Daryl I. ,of Kansas City, and Edward, of Tulsa, Okla. The daughters are Jennie, whose home is in Commerce, Okla., Marion, at Thayer, Florence, who is Mrs. Chas. Cresap, of Brandesville, and Miss Romilla, who has remained at home to comfort and care for her parents. All were here to attend the last rites except Edward, who was unable to come on account of sickness of his wife and baby.

Funeral services in charge of Rev. Patrick, were at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Baptist church, after which interment took place in the family burying ground, one mile east of Brandsville.

[Apparently the following, which was part of the article, is taken from the service. Note the name is now William HENRY Capshaw. This error was pointed out by Francis Marion Capshaw Range, daughter of William Carrol (Harold) Capshaw.]

William Henry Capshaw was born January 16, 1846, in Warren county, Tennessee. He was a Union veteran of the civil war, having enlisted at the age of 19 and was honorably discharged at the close of the war. He married April 16, 1879, to Miss Nancy Ferguson, of Sparta, Tenn.

"Daddy" Capshaw has gone on his journey to the "far country", that mysterious abode to which we are all ultimately bound. During a number of years "Daddy", as he was affectionately called by those who knew and loved him, has been in broken health, caused by service in the war. For the past year he has been so very frail that it seemed at times as though a draft coming from the window might take his breath away. He was confined to his bed only four days and last Monday night the Messenger came and quietly and tenderly took him home.

"The end is but the beginning. The crucified Christ is the living Christ, and death is not a stone wall, but a stepping stone."

Let us thank God for his influence in the present age and in our lives, and may the stricken ones who today feel the loss so keenly of a dear and loving earthly father, lift their hearts in gratitude for the faith that enables us all to turn our faces heavenward and say:

"God of the living, in whose eyes
Unveiled, the whole creation lies,
All souls are Thine; we must not say
That those are dead who pass away
From this world of flesh, set free,
We know them living unto Thee."
