Bare Bones, On the Namozine road between Jennings Ordinary and Fergusonville on Barebone Creek is a place called Bare Bones, which tradition says was the birthplace of Nancy Hanks, the mother of President Lincoln.
There are numerous records at Amelia Court House of the Hanks family, some with the same given names as those of the family of Lincoln's mother. Regardless of what Dr. Barton and other authorities on Lincoln may say, the records at Amelia Court House seem to bear out the tradition that Nancy Hanks was born at Barebones, at that time in Amelia, but now in Nottoway County

President Abraham Lincoln -- There are various theories/conclusions regarding President Lincoln's ancestry. It is known that his mother was Nancy (Hanks) Lincoln. The lineage set forth by Adin Baber and others says that President Lincoln was the grandson of Abraham Hanks of Virginia, who was a brother of Moses Hanks, although some say he is the grandson of Joseph Hanks (another brother of Moses and Abraham Hanks). Either way, there is a close blood connection with Nancy Hanks and President Lincoln. President Lincoln has no living descendants, and he had no siblings who left any offspring.

Thomas Hanks was born bef 1630. Thomas died aft 8 Apr 1674 in Gloucester Co., Virginia, at approximately 44 years of age.
He married Elizabeth.
Thomas Hanks and Elizabeth had the following children:
+ 2 i. William Hanks was born ca 1650.
3 ii. George Hanks. George died aft 1700.
4 iii. Robert Hanks was born 15 Aug 1661. It is unknown if he was a son of Thomas or merely one of his kinsman.
5 iv. Peter Hanks. He married Mary Beez 1702.
