Morgan Bryan was born in Denmark in 1671. One reference says that he and William came to Penn. in 1718, Another has that In the year 1695, Morgan Bryan removed to Penn. On the ship crossing, he met Martha Strode, a Holland woman and refugee Huguenot; they married shortly after the ship arrived, and resided at a place near the present city of Reading, Pa. In 17__, Morgan Bryan removed to Virgina and settled on Opequan Creek, about 12 miles from Winchester, Va. where most of hi s children grew up and married and where he remained until 1748. His wife died in Va. 1747 and in 1748, he removed to the Yadkin River County, North Carolina.
Morgan Bryan reputedly went to Ireland with his father, Francis Bryan , who was standard bearer to William and Mary of Orange, and was present at the Battle of Boyne, 1690.

Morgan Bryan came from Ireland to Chester Pennsylvania in 1719; he had sons William, James Joseph and Morgan.

THE HISTORY of PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY VIRGINIA
CHAPTER III FIRST SETTLEMENT page 39
[p.39] The history (Footnote: "History of Chester County," by J. Smith Futhey & Cope.) of Chester County states that the Clouds (Footnote: Order Book of Halifax, No. 1.) were English Quakers and that they came to America between 1683-85. The Quakers of Pennsylvania formed a company in 1730 under the leadership of Morgan Bryan (Footnote: Va. Mag. History, Vol. 13, page 127) and Alexander Ross for the purpose of making settlements in Maryland and Virginia, and were granted 100,000 acres along the Shenandoah. Associated with Ross were Joseph Ballinger, James Wright and Evan Thomas. Permission was gained from the Quarterly Meeting of Chester, Pennsylvania, to build a meeting house in Virginia and the Hopewell
Monthly Meeting of Frederick was formed in 1734. This settlement of Friends flourished for many years.
The Clouds being Quakers from Chester, Pennsylvania were probably members of Ross's company of Friends, who exploring down the Valley, found these unclaimed lands of western Brunswick full of promise and made their homes here. Morgan (Footnote: "The Building of an Empire," by J. G. Roulhae Hamilton) Bryan later moved down the Valley, settling awhile in Roanoke County, and in 1748 removed to the Yadkin, North Carolina, where he was joined by the Boones. A very early road through this section was called Morgan Bryan's Road, and when the Moravian Brethren came through here in I753 on their way to North Carolina, they followed this road of which they said "Morgan Bryan first came this way."
Footnote
Archibald Henderson's "Conquest of the Great Southwest" states that Morgan Bryan came from Ireland to Chester, Pennsylvania in 1719, with sons William, Joseph, James and Morgan. After settling on the Yadkin in North Carolina, the Bryans were joined by the Morgans and Boones. Edward Morgan had come from Wales; his daughter Sarah married Squire Boone and among their children was Daniel, the hunter.
THE HISTORY of PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY VIRGINIA
CHAPTER V A PART OF HALIFAX COUNTY, 1752-1767 ;page 63
There is mention of a visit (Footnote: Virginia Mag. History, Vol. 12, pages 273-79) to Hickey's Store made by the Moravian brethren, in 1753, when the first colony traveled from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania down to North Carolina to occupy the grant of 72,000 acres made to them by Lord Granville. This settlement is now Winston-[p.63] Salem. The brethren made the journey down the Valley of Virginia, crossed the Blue Ridge Mountains at Magotty's Gap and continued through Franklin and Henry Counties into North Carolina. A rude wagon way had been cut out before by Morgan Bryan21 whom it had taken three months to travel from the Shenandoah to the Yadkin, clearing his way as he went, and for years this road bore his name, being called Morgan Bryan's Road. Bryan, after leading a body of Quakers from Pennsylvania into Virginia, in 1748 moved with Martha, his wife, and eight children, to the Yadkin in North Carolina.
Morgan Bryan was a neighbor of Squire Boone in North Carolina. About two years prior to the arrival of the Boones, Martha Strode and Morgan Bryan had moved from Virginia to that part of the Yadkin Valley which was later known as "Bryan's Settlement". Joseph Bryan, the oldest of Morgan Bryan's children, had a daughter Rebecca who on August 14, 1756 became the bride of young Daniel Boone, the ceremony having been performed by Squire Boone who at the time was a Justice of the Peace in Rowan County.
HOPEWELL FRIENDS HISTORY 1734-1934 Frederick County, Virginia
CHAPTER II THE FATHERS OF THE COLONY ;page 17
Morgan Bryan's wife died in Virginia in 1748, after which date he sold the remainder of his land and moved southward, stopping for a period in what is now Rockingham County, and then proceeding to the Forks of the Yadkin River in North Carolina. At this place his granddaughter, Rebecca, daughter of his son Joseph, married Daniel Boone. The father of Daniel Boone had removed from the verge of Exeter Monthly Meeting, where the birth of Daniel Boone was recorded, to the Shenandoah Valley, sojourning there for several years. Squire Boone and Sarah Morgan, father and mother of Daniel Boone, were married at Gwynned Monthly Meeting in 1725, and during their stay in Virginia were probably members of Hopewell Monthly Meeting, but as the minutes covering this period were burned there is no record of their membership.

Morgan was a member of the New Garden Quaker community in PA. as early as 1719. In 1724 he moved to the west into Pequea Creek district (present-day Lancaster, PA). In 1730 he and Alexander Ross, another Quaker from New Garden, purchased one hundred thousand acres of land on the waters of Qpequon Creek (near present day Winchester, VA). In 1734 Morgan Bryan purchased a tract in present day Berkeley Co., W. Virginia and there he settled with his family. In 1748 Bryan moved himself and his large family to North Carolina where he made his home near the south bank of Deep Creek and was one of arrival of the most prominent settlers in northwestern North Carolina.

THIRD GENERATION
"After Morgan Bryan (Francis, William Smith) came to years of maturity, he left his parents in Ireland and came to America, to Pennsylvania. The record shows that Morgan Bryan lived in Chester County, where in 1719 he married Martha Strode". Several children were born in Pennsylvania. Then in 1728 or 1730, he with Alexander Ross and others received a grant of one thousand acres of land on the Potomac and Opequan Rivers in Virginia, and settled near the present site of Winchester. Here the rest of his children were born, and Martha Strode Bryan died in 1747. After her death he sold his interest in Virginia and in the fall of 1748 moved his family to North Carolina and settled in the forks of the Yadkin River, then Anson County, later (1753) Rowan. About two years later Squire Boone moved from Pennsylvania to North Carolina, and became a near neighbor.
Here Daniel Boone and Rebecca Bryan were married in 1755 and William Bryan and Mary Boone the same year. All family records say that Martha Strode Bryan died 1747 in Virginia, but in Augusta County Records, Vol. III, p. 340, we find that on September 27, 1753, Edward Hughes, Squire Boone and James Carter, of Roane County, were appointed to take acknowledgement of Martha, wife of Morgan Bryan.
Morgan Bryan died in 1763, aged 92 years. (This would make his birth 1671) and was buried in Rowan County. His will on file at Salisbury County, North Carolina, Will Book A, p. 13, gives unto my beloved son, Thomas, my mansion house and plantation; unto my beloved daughter, Elinor Linville, all my wife's apparel. I give and bequeath, Joseph, Samuel, Morgan, John, Willam, James and Thomas and daughter Elinor Linville, etc.
The children of Morgan and Martha Strode Bryan were:
1 Joseph, born 1720; married Hester Hampton (second wife) or name Alice and Hester.
2 Samuel, married Masmilla Simpson.
3 James, born 1723-1802; married 1756, Rebecca Knox.
4 Morgan Jr., born May 20, 1729; married Mary Forbes.
5 John, married Frances Battle.
6 Elinor, married William Linville.
7 Mary, married Forbes.
8 William, died 1781; married 1755, Mary Boone.
9 Thomas, born 1736, died 1789; married --- Hunt.
10 Sarah.
11 Rebecca, married 1755, Daniel Boone.
Of these, James, Morgan and William and some records say Joseph, went to Kentucky with Boone and built the fort known as Bryan's Station
