| Notes for Thomas (Spouse 1) | ||||||||||||||||||
| Thomas BERRY (1749-1830) was one of 6 sons of Ringmer carpenter- wheelwright John BERRY and his wife Martha (origins of this family available back into the 17th century). Three of these sons remained in Ringmer as carpenters, wheelwrights & maltsters; Thomas and one other went off to Malling Street, South Malling (now part of Lewes) where the family prospered in the same range of businesses on a larger scale (timber merchants, builders, surveyors, brewers and merchants). The last brother became a Patcham blacksmith. Thomas BERRY's 1830 will mentions three sons and four daughters then surviving (there may have been more). Details known on many of these. Henry Ebenezer's elder brother Thomas junior was especially successful, prominent in Lewes business circles, a leading Liberal like most of the BERRYs and a prominent non-conformist.1044 | ||||||||||||||||||
