William A. Chandler, Jr.
(1851-after 1893) and Maria Hulick (1851-1891)
William A Chandler Jr was born in
1851 in Michigan, son of William A. Chandler and Margaret Newman.
He married prior to 1872 Maria Hulick. Maria was born in September 1851 in Illinois
the daughter of Horace and Emaline Hulick. Little is known about William
except that he worked as a farmer for a while. In 1880, William farmed in East Bay
township. The census enumerator found William, wife Maria; children Mary, Horace, and
Alta; and a servant living in the household.
Prior to 1891 he appears to have deserted his family. Between that year and 1893 his whereabouts were "unknown" in court records, although a biography of his brother stated that he had moved to California and "when last heard from he resided in the upper peninsula of Michigan". Maria died after suffering from consumption on 23 August 1891 at Acme, Grand Traverse County, Michigan. At her death she left her four surviving children 113 dollars. Her will stated that the money be used to defray the expenses of sickness and death. J. E. Secor received eight dollars for a cemetery lot and the grave he dug. B. J. Morgan supplied the funeral carriage for another eight dollars. W. S. Anderson charged $50 for a casket and Young Alanson Chandler was outfitted with a suit for four dollars. Dr. Kneeland received $32.50 for medical services, the Probate Judge three dollars, and H & S Groceries the remaining five dollars. Children of William Chandler, Jr. and Maria Hulick i.
