Caroline M. Chandler (1843-1920) and her husbands Julius F. Crego (1832-1901) and George T. Haney (ca. 1859-1900) Caroline M Chandler was born on 16 August 1843 at Bridgewater, Genesee County, Michigan, daughter of William Chandler and Fannie Green. She married first before 1865 to Julius F Crego. Julius was born in 1832, the son of M. Crego. He worked as a butcher. They moved to East Bay in 1876. They were divorced prior to 1883. Julius died from heart disease on 24 January 1901 and is buried in Fife Lake Cemetery. On 8 June 1883 in Grand Traverse County, Michigan she married second George T Haney and moved to Arbutus Lake. George was born in 1859/1860 in Pennsylvania. Caroline and George lived in a two-story log cabin with a low ceiling. Caroline smoked a corncob pipe. George died on 9 November 1900. The Morning Record reported on 11 November 1900: George T Haney Dead. George T. Haney died of Bright's disease on Friday afternoon, at his farm home in Garfield township, aged 40 years. He leaves a wife and one daughter. The funeral services will be held Monday at 12 o'clock from the residence. Interment will take place in Oakwood cemetery. Mr. Haney carried insurance to the amount of $2000 in the K. O. T. M. and $1000 in another organization, thus leaving his family well provided for." Caroline died 26 May 1920 at home in East Bay township, Grand Traverse County, Michigan. The Record Eagle reported: PIONEER RESIDENT DIES- Mrs. Caroline M. Haney, seventy-seven years of age, and a pioneer resident of this county, passed away Wednesday morning at two o'clock at her home seven and a half miles south of the city, on the State Road. She was born August 16, 1845, at Bridge water, Genesee county, Michigan, moving to East Bay township in 1876, and settling on the Chandler homestead. She was married to George T. Haney, June 8, 1883, and located near Arbutus lake, where she has since resided. Besides her brother, David Chandler, 1008 Washington street, city, her husband having preceded her ind eath twenty years, one daughter, Mrs. L. W. Knaggs of Chicago, and one son, W. G. Crego of Lansing, both of whom were with her at the time of death survive in the immediate family. Mr. Knaggs will arrive this evening from Chicago to attend the funeral, which will be conducted Friday morning at ten o'clock from the family residence, Rev. E. C. Braun, pastor of the local Evangelical church, officiating. Burial will be made in Oakwood cemetery. In her will, dated 18 October 1902, she instructed her heirs to pay her debts and funeral expenses and then divide her estate evenly among her two surviving children.
