Leonard" (1896) by Manning Leonard, states that he married Phebe,
daughter of Roger Chandler about he time he came of age. It is not known
exactly where they took up residence. Tradition holds that he was among
the earliest settlers of Quinsiganmond (Worcester), who were driven off
by Indians in 1675. They may have lived for a while in Marlborough.
During King Philip's War, which began in 1675, they would have lived in
Bridgewater, which would have been considered less vulnerable to Indian
attacks than the newer towns.
It must be assumed that Phebe died before 1679, for it was in that year
that Jacob married his second wife, Susannah King. Jacob and Phebe had
two children - Joseph (d. 29 Jan 1749) and Josiah.
Jacob and Susannah lived in Weymouth for a short time, then moved to
Worcester, near Quinsigamond Lake, but Indians again made settlement
there impossible. The family may have resided at Mendon for a short
time, and at Taunton on land granted to Jacob's first wife. 1 May 1693
found them in Bridgewater - on which date they were "warned out".
(This warning out was a common practice in those days, to prevent a
family, when first coming to a town, from gaining a habitancy and
rendering the town liable to the maintainance of the posterity, and was
done in all cases, however respectable or wealthy the new comer might
be.) Jacob lived out the rest of his days as a respected member of the
Bridgewater community.

"Mayflower Families Through Five Generations" Vol.2, p.23, says the
identity of Jacob's first wife is not known. Only one child is recognized
from this union - Joseph. No mention of a Josiah. It is curious that
although the phrase "my present wife" [referring to Susanna] in his will
suggests an earlier wife, Jacob did not mention a son, Joseph, or
Joseph's heirs, either in his will or in any deeds.
