II Lord Bergavenny; Earl of Warwick, K.B., K.G., Hereditary Sheriff or

Worcestershire and Chamberlain of the Exchequer. Served in Wales

against Owen Glendower, defeating him near Machynlleth, co.

Montgomery, and capturing his banner, in 1402 [dated by the appearance

of Halley's comet at the time]. Present at the death bed of king Henry V.

From 1 June 1428 until 19 May 1436 tutor and Governor to the young

King, whom he bore to Westminster Abbey for his Coronation on 6

November 1429. On 16 July 1437 he was appointed lieutenant of France

and Normandy, remaining in France thereafter; mortally wounded at the

siege of Meaux.K.B., 8 April 1413; Joint Warden of the Welsh Marches

1415; Captain of Lances and Archers in Normandy 1418; Lord Bergavenny;

created Earl of Worcester in Feb 1420/1; died s.p.m. being mortally

wounded at the seige of Meaux in France; buried at Tewkesbury Abbey.
