IMPORTANT NOTE TO RESEARCHERS:

Several online databases (mine included until this revision) have shown this

Edward Mansfield of Chebeague Island, Maine, as a son of Henry (RIN 94) and

Hannah (Tuttle) Mansfield. See notes on Edward's brother, Henry why this is

almost certainly not so.

On 23 March 1964, in response to my inquiry to the town clerk of

Yarmouth, Maine, regarding the ancestry of my great grandfather, Joseph

G. Mansfield, I received a response from Katherine P. Tinker. She cited no

sources. In that letter she wrote:

. "...An Edward Mansfield who may have been a brother of the elder Henry

was also on Chebeauge where he bought land in 1831. He was married on

Jan. 11, 1818 to Anna G. Waldron. I have no information as to where

either of these two men came from.

The 1850 census for 1st ward Portland, Cumberland Co., Maine lists

Edward Mansfield as a 56 year old soap maker, real estate valued at

$2000, born in Massachusetts. Enumerated in his household (all born in

Maine) are:

. Ann G., age 51

. Edward S., age 21

. Justina W., age 16

. Joseph P., age 15

. Hannah E., age 12

. Charles Sampson, age 29

. Margaret G. sampson, age 23

. Charles F. Hodgkins, age 19

The 1870 census for 1st ward Portland, Cumberland Co., Maine, p.455/6

lists Edward Mansfield as a 76 year old grocer, no real estate, personal

property valued at $2000, born in Maine. Ann G., age 71, keeping house.

Immediately preceeding Edward's 1870 census listing is the listing for the

household of his son, Ellis Mansfield.

Edward is living with his son, Ellis, in Portland at the time of the 1880 census.
