. "Ray Gurganus reports that John Cherry "apparently also married

Rebecca Mercer, a daughter of William Mercer and Elizabeth ?, and may also

have married Abigail ? of Norfolk Co. Abigail was born about 1620. Thigpen

gives ten children of John, although no evidence can be found for most of

them. In fact, the death years given by Thigpen for the most of these

children shows many of them died in their 70's & 80's, highly unlikely for

250 years ago. '21".

I do not know who this Thigpen is, Oliver Sprye who received 300 acres in

Upper Norfolk Co., VA on Oct. 24, 1637 for transporting 6 persons from

England, by court order on June 6, 1635. It appears that John Cherry

sailed from England to Norfolk, VA in 1635."
