Ireland", TAG 54:1 (1978). The basic argument is as follows:
In Ban Shenchus 337 and 227:3 Echrad is called daughter of Matudan m.
Aeda and mother of Muircertach m. Domnaill. But the entry at 188:8 reads
"Echrad, daughter of Matudan m. Cellaig King of Ossory, mother of
Donnchad m. Aeda; & mother of Muircertach m. Domnall hUi Neill." There
is not known any such person as Matudan m. Cellaig or Matudan of Ossory,
so it would appear that the "Matudan" rightly belongs with the "m. Aeda"
and that the fathers of Matudan and Donnchad have been accidentally
switched by some dyslexic scribe. The The emended entry would
therefore have read "Echrad, daughter of Matudan m. Aeda, mother of
Donnchad m. Cellaig King of Ossory...." The chronology is satisfactory (but
just barely).
