husband is still a matter of debate. Other possibilities postulated :

CONRAD THE PEACEFUL, King of Burgundy (RIN 1615); ; BOLESLAV II, DUKE

OF BOHEMIA (RIN 2367); EBERHARD IV, COUNT OF NORDGAU (RIN 2056);

Elbus, the son of a Duke of Aquitaine; and Alberic Majois, Count of

Narbonne.

Eadgifu = Louis of Aquitaine

[Todd Farmerie asked]

"Now. Who then is Louis. It is (barely) possible that a child of

Edward's third marriage could have married Louis 'the Blind', but he

died while she was yet young. The only other Louis I came up with was

Louis IV, but he was son of the older Eadgifu [an older dau. of EDWARD

THE ELDER]. Could the accounts be confused? Perhaps Eadgifu, wife of

Louis is none other than Eadgifu, mother of Louis."

[Matman's reply]:

"I may be wrong on this, but isn't the source that mentions this

marriage rather late, eg Roger of Wendover, or Florence of Worcester or

William of Malmsbury? I think this is the origin of the confusion. I

suspect as you suggest, they confused the mother of Louis, and made her

his wife, as she lived throughout his reign and was quite important. I

think some modern historians have made Louis of Aquitaine = Louis V son

of Lothar of France, who was crowned king of Aquitaine 979, and sent

there in 982, but he was married to the widow Adelaide, and any

daughter of Edward the elder would have been far too old by then."
