Mom remembers that John was a shoemaker in the Sibley Ave neighborhood.
Following is John's obituary from the 5 Jan 1948 edition of the "South Bend Tribune":
. John Goepfrich, aged 63, of 814 South 26th street, died at 5 a.m. today in Healthwin hospital after 18 months illness. He was born in Austria Feb 23, 1884, and came here 38 years ago [this would be about 1910] from that country. He was married in South Bend to Mrs. Lena Graub, who survives. He leaves also two daughters, Mrs. Mary Klosinski, and Mrs. Catherine Martin; a son, John W. Graub, and five grandchildren, all of South Bend, and two brothers, Joseph and Matthew Goepfrich, in Austria. Friends will be received after 7 p.m. today in the Nemeth funeral home. Mr. Goepfrich was a member of the St. Stephen society of St. Mary's Church and of the Fortbildung Verein. The St. Stephen society will recite the rosary at 8 p.m. Tuesday in thhe funeral home.
