I know of no contemporary source which provides the parents of

Sprota. Speculation has placed her among the family of the Counts of

Senlis, because BERNARD OF SENLIS (RIN 1183) is called uncle of

RICHARD I. However, a second source says the same of WILLIAM

LONGSWORD, suggesting that if true, the link was through POPPA.

(Sprota's status as mistress of WILLIAM also makes it unlikely that she

came from a family of such status.)
