. "Rose A. Schneider, 83, of 2120 Morehouse Avenue, Elkhart, Ind.,
passed away after an illness at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30, in the
Valley View Health Care Center.
. Rose was born on March 3, 1917, in South Bend, Ind., to the late Joseph
and Ann (Scheidl) Goepfrich. She was also preceded in death by two
sisters, Margaret Lafever and Marie Strantz; and by two brothers, Joe
and Albert Goepfrich.
. She married Alex J. Schneider in June 1937, in South Bend. He
survives. She is also survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Theresa
Walsh) Freeman of Mishawaka, Ind., and Mrs. Horst (Joan) Schneidel of
North Vernon, Ind.; and by 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Schneider was a member of St. Vincent
dePaul Catholic Church, was a member of the Rosary and Altar Societies
of the church, and the Legion of Mary. She was a Eucharistic minister and
ministered to the nursing homes. Rose was involved with thje girl scouts
for over 50 years, and was known as "Beaver" among the scouts. She was
also the family historian, and enjoyed writing poetry.
. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 1, in the Westbrook-Metz
& Clouse Funeral Home. A vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. today in the
funeral home.
. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, in St. Thomas
Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Rulli, pastor, St. Vincent dePaul
Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Vincent's
Cemetery, Elkhart, Ind.
. Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church
and School."
