curious because in the extensive Dal Fiatach genealogies of the period there is

only one Muiredach recorded, viz. MUIREDACH MUINDERG, the progenitor of all

the later Dal Fiatach kings of Ulster ; but since he was contemporary with

St. Patrick (5th century) and the husband of CACHT died in the 7th century,

this identification would be a severe chronological stretch. Nevertheless, this

is what the text says, and since O'Rahilly believes that Muiredach Muinderg

actually survived well into the 6th century, it is at least possible that Cacht

was born to him late in life, and so I accept the link.
