Weis" "Ancestral Roots. . ." (54:29). The parents of this Maud de Clare are

unknown.

A MAUD DE CLARE (RIN 832) m. WILLIAM DE BRAOSE. Roger de Lacy d.1211

and WILLIAM DE BRAOSE d.1210 so it is unlikely one and the same Maud

was married to them successively (though not out of the question).

Under Roger de Lacy (d. 1212), the "Dictionary of National Biography"

states that ROGER married Maud de "Clere", sister of the treasurer of

York Cathedral. So it looks as if de Lacy's wife was not a Clare at all.

In Feb 1999, the identity of this woman was the subject of a flurry of

research by several accomplished genealogists who corresponded on

GEN-MEDIEVAL. No conclusion was reached.
