. "Well, it would appear that Mary's Mother was Catherine Vining.
I have reason to believe that Thomas N. is actually Thomas Nesbit Baird,
son of John Baird and Mary Nesbit of Perry Co., OH.
. The first reason is that a genealogy report was given to me by another
researcher which was prepared several years ago by her aunt. Almost all
of the information in this report has been verified by me and is correct. It
stated that Thomas Nesbit Baird went to McLean Co., IL.
. The second reason is that Thomas Nesbit Baird's sister, Nancy Agnes
Baird Sabin, also went to McLean Co. and owned land that was almost
adjacent to the land of Thomas N. Baird. (Dry Grove Twp.)
. The next reason is that Austin Castle who m. Thomas Baird's dtr.
Catherine was also from Muskingum Co., OH. (Perry Co. was made out of a
part of Muskingum Co. OH)
. Another reason is that Thomas N. names a dtr. Mary, which is the name
of Thomas Nesbit's mother.
. The next reason is that Thomas N. was born OH in about the correct
time frame.
. With all of this circumstantial evidence, I am pretty well convinced that
he is the same as Thomas Nesbit Baird.
. My husband descends from John Baird and Mary Nesbit Baird through
son, Samuel, brother to Thomas Nesbit."

child of a son."

. Thomas's sister, Nancy Agnes Baird m. David Sabin. These are the folk
who owned land almost adjacent to Thomas in McLean Co., Dry Grove Twp.
Later sister Nancy moves to Ford Co., IL and is buried there.
The 1850 census for Tazewell Co., Illinois, shows him as a 39 [age does
not agree with later censuses] year old farmer with real estate valued at
$1000. Other members of the household:
MARY, wife, age 39.
CATHERINE [our ancestor], age 13.
Smidley, age 11.
George, age 8.
Thomas, age 7.
Mary, age 3.
Susan, age 3/12 [apparently died as a child as she does not appear in
later censuses.]
The 1860 census for McLean Co., Illinois, shows him as a 46 year old
farmer born in Ohio in 1814, with real estate valued at $4000 and
personal property valued at $1200. Other members of the household:
MARY, wife, age 45, born in Ohio in 1815.
CATHERINE [mother-in-law], age 73, born in Pennsylvania in 1787.
CATHERINE [our ancestor], age 24, born in Ohio in 1836.
Smidley, a 22 year old farmer, born in Ohio in 1836.
George, an 18 year old farmer, born in Ohio in 1842, attending school.
Thomas, a 16 year old, born in Illinois in 1844, attending school.
Mary, a 13 year old, born in Illinois in 1847, attending school.
Margaret, a 10 year old, born in Illinois in 1850, attending school.
William Smith, a 20 year old farm laborer born in Illinois.
The 1870 census for McLean Co., Illinois, shows him as a 56 year old
farmer with real estate valued at $5300 and personal property valued at
$600, living with his wife, MARY. 84 year old mother-in-law,
CATHERINE, is listed, in the census entry following this one on the page,
as living with her granddaughter, Margaret and Margaret's husband, ?
Woods. Her occupation is given as a retired nurse.
The 1880 census for McLean Co., Illinois, shows him as a 67 year old
illiterate farmer, born in Ohio, both parents born in Pennsylvania, living
with his wife, MARY, and his 98 year old widowed mother-in-law,
KATHERINE.
