. "No one knows the parents of Gisela (wife of the first Gerhard), but

there has been quite a bit of speculation.

. The latest version of the early ancestry of the Matfieding dukes of

Upper-Lorraine is given in ES I.2:204. ES and Prof. Stoyan agree in

leaving Gisela parentless . . .

. In his analysis of the Bouzonville Foundation Notice, Jackman (46,

53-55, 57 note 133) argues for the tentative affiliation for Gisela to

Dietrich I (d.1027) duke of U-L [(RIN 1606)] and his wife, Richildis. This

was originally proposed by Kimpen (see Hlawitschka p.84 note 20 who

rejects it).
