Bartrum's "Welsh Classicla Dictionary".

According to the pedigrees Meurig, a contemporary of St. Cadog, had a mother

Ennynny (RIN 8960) who was sister of Urien Rheged. There is certainly a

serious chronological error here and it is unfortunate that further infromation

on these points is only available from late sixteenth-century manuscripts.

However, when they make sense we are perhaps justified in accepting them. From

these we learn that "Henfyn verch Kynvarch" was the mother of MEURIG AP TEWDRIG

(RIN 8889), who was certainly later than Cadog and could have had a mother who

was sister of Urien Rheged. Either both Meurigs had mothers named Enhinti (or

the like), or V. Cadoci and JC have confused two Meurigs.

In JC 9 the father of Meurig is said to be Caradog Freichfras, which can hardly

be correct. This Caradog may be the Caradocus, King of Gwent (RIN 8964*)

mentioned in Vita S. Tathei (VSB 274, 278).

On the other hand, MP 3 gives the following pedigree, considered by Bartrum to

be fictitious (but I am not sure why): MEURIG ap Meirchion ap Gwrgan Frych ab

Arthfael ab Einydd ap Gorddwfn ap Goruc Mawr ap Meirchion Fawdfilwr ab Owain ap

Cyllin ap Caradog ap Bran Fendigaid, who is a legendary first century figure,

and so on.
