Raymond Berenger I, d. 1035, compte de Barcelona, by (3) wife Guisle
d'Ampurias. (112:23) expresses doubt as to her parentage.
However, T.N. Bisson's, "The Mediaval Crown of Aragon", chart on page
198, shows that it was Count Berenguer Ramon I who died in 1035.
Stuart's "Royalty For Commoners" (85:30) also shows her as the dau. of
Raymond Berenger I.

Subject: Re: Eudes I Borell de BOURGONE"
. "Chaume, I think it was, concluded that she was the 'Sybille, mother
of
the Duke of Burgundy' named in one imprecisely dated document. The
argument is that since she is called mother of the Duke, she wasn't
widow of the Duke, and thus must have been married to the member of
the dynasty that never succeeded. Richard pointed out that the sitting
Duke is the frame of reference, and refering to the mother of the Duke
in
no way implies that she wasn't wife of the previous Duke (any more than
Queen Mother implies her former husband wasn't King). It is clear that
this reference was to Sybille of Burgundy, wife of Eudes Borrel, and not
his otherwise unknown mother. That being the case, there is not a
single
document which refers to this woman, so there is no direct data
allowing her name or origin to be determined.
. How about her ancestry then. The only direct clues we have are that
two sons bore the byname Borrel. This suggests a relationship to the
Counts of Barcelona, which was the only family at the time (of
reasonable social status) using the name. By generation, she would have
been granddaughter of Ramon Borrel, and was probably (again, based on
social status) daughter of his son, Count Berenger Ramon. That's how
the
argument runs, at least. She was also somehow related to the Ramon,
Count of Galicia, who was son of William, Count of Burgundy and wife
Etienette. His name Ramon again suggests the possibility of a Barcelona
connection, particularly in light of his kinship with Henry of
Burgundy's
wife.
. So. We don't know her name, and her origin is a guess, but perhaps
a
reasonable one."
