From a letter dated 28 Feb 2003 from Robert E. Pierce, New Dominion, Cornwall RR#2, PEI, Canada, COA 1HO (a professional genealogist):
". . . the widower James Spencer Crossman married Hannah Jane Corney. . . The 1881 census for the Crossman family makes no mention of Matilda, there are 3 daughters and one son. James dies in 1882 after an illness of 6 months. His obit says he leaves 6 children. Where are the other two daughters from the first marriage in the 1881 census? Maybe they were not able to get along with the step-mother."
