Subject: Re: Clementia de Foix ' older generations (II)
. "The original question regarded Clementia de Foix. She is entirely
undocumented in contemporary sources, being the invention of Szabolcs
de Vajay in his work on the Countess Estefania of Burgudy. That her
name was Clementia is to account for the use of this name among the
descendants of Estefania, and also among the later generations of the
Foix family. That she was wife of Adelbert is speculated because
Estefania appeared to have been of Northern extraction, but had a
southern name, and Adelbert had another daughter with a name of similar
flavor, suggesting that his wife had come from the south. That she
belonged to the Foix family is based on the appearance of the names
Estefania and Clementia in that family, and the documented relationship
of Estefania's son Raymond to Henry of Burgundy, Count of Portugal. The
latter had two brothers who used the name Borrel, which would appear
to mark a descent from the Count of Barcelona, Ramon Borrell, and his
wife Ermesenda (de Foix).
. She is thus speculated to be daughter of Bernard Roger, Count of
Bigorre (brother of Ermesenda and father of the first Count of Foix).
Several months ago, I summarized a recent paper on the ancestry and
marriage of Roger Count of Carcassona, father of Bernard. (Search the
archives for "Stasser and Roger".)"
