. Employee electrocuted at Plymouth TCU branch

PLYMOUTH - A 44-year-old Mishawaka man was electrocuted Thursday at
Teacher's Credit Union's east branch in Plymouth.
Terrence M. Collins, who has worked for TCU for 7 1/2 years in the
maintenance department, was removing kitchen appliances from an
employee lounge when he suffered the fatal shock shortly before 10:30
a.m.
According to Marshall County Coroner Dean Byers, Collins was
removing "a kitchenette-type unit, combination stove, refrigerator and
sink," and he apparently believed the electrical supply to it had been
disconnected.
Plymouth Police Chief Tom Chamberlin said Collins reached over the stove
unit to work behind it and was leaning on the stove, when "there
was an electrical connection."
There were other credit union employees in the break room with him,
Chamberlin said, and they immediately called 911 and began CPR.
Two 911 calls were answered, almost simultaneously, at 10:17 a.m.
Chamberlin arid Byers said Collins never recovered and was pronounced
dead at 11:05 a.m. at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth
campus.
Heidi Cleveland, marketing director at TCU's South Bend office, said,
"at this time, we are providing whatever assistance we can provide to
his family and will be completing an investigation into the cause of the
accident. We have no further details at this time."
TCU has two branch offices in Plymouth, in the 200 block of Plymouth
Goshen Road, and on Oak Road. The accident occurred afthe branch on
Plymouth-Goshen Road.
Richard Simpson is the manager of both branches. Collins had lived in
the 1500 block of East 4th Street, Mishawaka, with his wife, Nancy
Collins.
