Stuart's "Royalty For Commoners" (313:30) calls him Helie de la Fletche

(de Baugency) of Anjou, Seigneur de la Fletche, Count of Maine, and

Seigneur de Ballon

Subject: Descendants of 'Saint' William, duke of Toulouse

"He was called 'Plantapilosa', which means 'hairy feet'. . . Because of

the famous and confusing 'problem of the three [or more] Bernards', some

have thought that Bernard, grandson of Saint William, is not the same as

Bernard, father of William the Pious. However, most modern scholars,

including Constance Bouchard and Janet Nelson, seem to accept this

identification."

There is a theory, discussed by Nat Taylor in the same posting excerpted

from in the above note, that GERBERGA (RIN 1429), wife of FULK II,

COUNT OF ANJOU, was a grandaughter of this Bernard. See GERBERGA's

notes.
