"It looks as if three wives have been made out of one, named Prawst. In
Harl. 2414, fo. 68v, at the end of 'Ach Dewi' we find: Mam Eleri oedd
Aurbost verch twysawg Kerniw. Mam Aurbost oedd verch amherawdr
Ryvain. Similarly Dwnn ii. 64. This suggests that a prince of Cornwall
married the daughter of a Roman emperor, presumably Maximus. It is
remarkable that such a marriage is actually recorded in Harl. 1974 (c.
1600), fos. 30r and 31r, where we are told that the wife of Tudwal ap
Morfawr (see MG 5, JC 11) was Gratian, daughter of Maximus.
Bartrum's "Welsh Genealogies" shows with a "?" that her parents were
Tudwal and Gratian, but later removes the relationship as too doubtful.
