yr.

.....She m. after 27 May 1627, perhaps in 1629 ROBERT BARTLETT [the 28

Mar 1628 date was supplied by Janice Whitaker, who researched this

family, and I do not know her source for it], perhaps the Robert Bartlett

bp. 27 May 1603 at Puddletown, co. Dorset, England; d. Plymouth bet. 19

Sept 1676 (date of will) and 29 Oct 1676 (date will proven) perhaps the

son of Robert and Alice (Barker) Bartlett.

.....Robert Bartlett arrived on the "Anne" in 1623 and received one acre in

the 1623 Division of Land.

.....On 1 July 1633 Mrs. Warren and Robt. Bartlet were to mow where they

did last year, implying a marriage to Mary 1632 or earlier.

.....On 27 June 1659 Robert Bartlett took a lease for 10 years of the lands

of his late son-in-law Richard Foster.

.....On 4 March 1673/4 Mary Bartlett the wife of Robert Bartlett: owned

she had received full satisfaction for share of the estate of Mistris

Elizabeth Warren Deceased.

.....On 14 July 1670 Robert Bartlett, wine cooper of Plymouth, deeded land

to son in law Jamas Barnabey, cordwainer, and dau. Lydia Barnabey his

wife.

.....The will of Robert Bartlett of Plymouth, dated 13 Sept 1676, proved

29 Oct 1676, gave all his estate to his wife to dispose among his

children.

Per Weis' "Ancestral Roots . . ." (47D:33), he was Lord Cherleton; feudal

lord of Powis.

Cokayne's "Complete Peerage" (Cherleton, p.161-162). In 1410 he

sustained great loss by the rebellion of Owen Glendower. In 1417 having

apprehended John, Lord Oldcastell, a Lollard, within his territory of

Powys, he received the thanks of Parliament. He left no male heir. His

two daughters, Joan and Joyce, were coheiresses.

Per "Burke's Extinct Peerage 1883" (Just re-published by Genealogical

Publishing Co., Baltimore):

Under Cherlton, Baron Cherlton of Powys:

" Edward de Cherlton, the last of his line m Alianore, dau. of Thomas

Holland 2nd Earl of Kent. Edward d. 1422 when the Barony of Cherlton of

Powys fell into abeyance, between his daughters, and his estates

devolved upon them as co-heirs. The lordship of Powys coming to the

eldest dau. Joan [wife of Sir John Grey, Earl Tankerville], that lady's

grandson, John Grey had summons to parliament, in 1482, as Lord Grey,

of Powys, but Sir Harris Nicolas, in his considers that

summons a new creation, and not a revival of the original dignity, and is

born out in the opinion, he says, by a carful examination of the

parliamentary rolls wherein he finds the old lords denominated in almost

all instances, Lords Cherlton, and he thence argues, that if it were meant

to revive the suspended barony in the great-grandson of Edward 4th and

last Lord Cherlton, that personage would have been summoned as Baron

Cherlton, of Powys, and not as Lord Grey-a course which appears

indisputable. The Barony of Cherlton must therefore be deemed still in

abeyance.
