Yarmouth, Maine, regarding the ancestry of my great grandfather, Joseph

G. Mansfield, I received a response from Katherine P. Tinker. She cited no

sources. In that letter she wrote:

..." William S. Bennett was born Feb. 7, 1821 the son of Stephen and Rachel

(Soule) Bennett."

"Stone Sloops of Chebeague", chart, p. 96. Page 86 lists him as serving on

the crew of the stone sloop "Northern Light".

The 1850 census for Cumberland Islands, Cumberland Co., Maine, page 149:

. Serena Bennet, age 29, born in Maine

. David H., age 4, born in Maine

(Ancestry.com image 32 of 44) lists William S. Bennett as a 39 year old

fisherman, real estate valued at $500, personal property valued at $100,

born in Maine. Enumerated in his household (all born in Maine):

Enumerated in the entry immediately preceeding William's entry in this

1860 census is the entry for William's brother, David Bennett, a 55 year

old farmer, real estate valued at $300, personal property valued at $40,

born in Maine, along with Hannah, age 60, born in Mass.

listing for a William Bennett of the right age.
