Cokayne's "Complete Peerage" (Chester, p.164).
According to the "Dictionary of National Biography", in the article on Hugh of Avaranches, Earl of Chester, Richard's father, THURSTAN (TOUSTEIN) was unfaithful to DUKE WILLIAM [of Normandy (RIN 798)] in 1040 and helped HENRY, KING OF FRANCE (RIN 1198) in his invasion of Normandy. Richard remained loyal and made his father's peace with the duke.
