Notes

Chebeague Island was purchased bt Zachariah (son of Joseph & Martha)

Chandler. In 1746 the land was divided amongst Zechariah and his brothers,

Edmund, Jonathan, and Judah and his brother-in-law Jonas Mason.

It would seem almost certain that the Betty Chandler who married John

Hamilton would have been the daughter of one of these Chandler brothers.

Another possibility is that she could have been the widow of a Chandler.

Philip, a son of Joseph & Martha Chandler who was not among the

Chebeague landowners, is known to have had a daughter, Betty (RIN

10482), born in 1727/8. However, she married Ezekiel Bradford in 1750.

John Hamilton did not die until 1767, so this would have to be a different

Betty.
