The 1880 census lists him as a sailor living with his mother. Note that the entry immediately before is for his uncle, Simeon Hamilton.

. Ellis Mansfield, head, born Nov 1856, age 43, married 16 years, he, entire household, & parents born in Maine, fisherman.
. Emma C., wife, born Apr 1865, age 35.
. Albert B., son, born Nov 1885, age 14, att. school.
. Mattie F., daughter, born Oct 1897 [sic - should be 1887], age 12, att. school.
The 1910 census for Cumberland Twp, Cumberland Co., Maine (Ancestry.com image 24 of 29):
. Ellis F. Mansfield, age 52, married 27 years, he, entire household & parents born in Maine, fisherman, owns home with no mortgage.
. Emma C., wife, age 54 (?), married 27 years, mother of 2 children - both living.
. Albert B., son, age 25, married 7 years, fisherman.
. Mattie [init.], daughter, age 11.

There is no entry for an Ellis Mansfield in Maine or of the right age listed in the Ancestry.com index to the 1920. Census. Perhaps he died before 1920.
