Stone Sloops of Chebeague" (1949), chart, p.106, states that he was a

shipmaster. He made 40 trips to the West Indies and many to Europe. He

was in the War of 1812. He lived on Cousins Island.

The 1860 census for Yarmouth, Cumberland Co., Maine, (Ancestry.com

image 37 of 51):

. Jacob Hamilton, age 77, farmer, real estate valued at $3000, personal

estate valued at $600., he & entire household born in Maine.

Cokayne's "Complete Peerage" (Stanley, p.250), says she was the dau. of

Sir John and the sister of Sir William de Harington, but see next note.

Weis' "Ancestral Roots. . ." (40:35) & (57:35) say she is the dau. of SIR

ROBERT HARINGTON & ISABEL LORING. The note for (57:35) acknowledges

the discrepancy with CP and refers us to Chetham Soc. XXX 3rd ser. "The

Stanleys", p.2, footnote 1 and p.6; A. Collins "The Peerage of England" III

54-55; and DNB 54:76.

David Faris' "Plantagenet Ancestry ... ", 1996, p. 107, agrees with Weis.

"and, to add to the confusion, Weis/Sheppard can't agree with

themselves. In Magna Charta Sureties, 1215, 4th ed., Baltimore MD

(Genealogical Publishing Co) 1991-3, p 116 (Line 103-9), Weis/Sheppard

say that Isabel Harington, wife of Sir John de Stanley, was the daughter

of Sir Nicholas Harington of Hornby Castle. I'm working from a 5th

edition (1976) of Ancestral Roots so I assumed that my later edition of

MCS was more correct. I hadn't noticed the note in Faris, but there does

seem to be legitimate disagreement here, even with the same author."

The 1880 census for Cumberland Twp., Cumberland Co., Maine (Ancestry.com image 26 of 35) lists Martha M. Mansfield as a 48 year old dress maker and head of household. Presumably her husband was dead. Enumerated with her:
