"Gilbert I's parentage is not certain. From what I recall J H Round

thinks it probable that Gilbert I's father is Ralph (d.?1127) the justiciar

of Henry I. Turton *Plantagenet Ancestry*, 84, gives a descent of

Thomas I from an Osmund Basset and gives a John Basset as father of

Thomas I. Turton omits Gilbert I. Thomas I's filiation is given by Wagner

*Pedigree and Progress*, 208. On Gilbert I see also VCH: Oxfordshire,

VI:325."
