Cokayne's "Complete Peerage" (Segrave, pp. 601-603). Cokayne does not

specify which of his father's wives was his mother. For now, I am

assuming the first wife.

From 1232 he was performing a variety of minor services for KING

HENRY III. In 1242 he was made justice of the forest this side of Trent.

In 1251 he was sitting as third judge at the King's bench. He was with

THE KING in Gascony 1253/4. He and some other English nobles were

returning from Gascony, when captured and imprisoned by the citizens of

Pons in Piotou, who ignored the safe-conduct granted by King Louis IX of

France (RIN 4232*). Gilbert died there.
