The genealogies generally identify him as the father of the three Collas, but

see O'Rahilly's "Early Irish History and Mythology", which argues that the

three Collas were in fact sons of NIALL NOIGIALLACH (RIN 2635). In any case,

few modern scholars consider any of the genealogy before this point historical.

On 23 March 1964, in response to my inquiry to the town clerk of

Yarmouth, Maine, regarding the ancestry of my great grandfather, Joseph

G. Mansfield, I received a response from Katherine P. Tinker. She cited no

sources. In that letter she identified John and Betty (Chandler) as parents

of Ambrose Hamilton. Tinker is the source for the genealogies used in

"Stone Sloops of Chebeague", cited next.

"Stone Sloops of Chebeague" (1949), chart p. 106, has the note; "he died

on Chebeague 1767, she in 1772. He came to this counrty in 1733, lived at

Walnut Hill"

The Sumpter/Hathaway Family Tree on ancestry.com has, as the wife of

John Chandler and mother of his children, Betty Franzy, who was born in

Guernsey. No sources are cited. Looking at this in light of K.P. Tinker's

statement, there are two additional possibilities. Either Tinker is

completely mistaken, or Betty Franzy was the widow of a Franzy before

marrying John.
