wife was Aubrey de Vesci. As this is the latest research, I am accepting
it for my database.
W E Wightman, *The Lacy Family in England and Normandy, 1066-1194*,
genealogical chart following p 260.
(pP. 76, 78): "Ilbert [II] was succeeded by his brother Henry. ..... Henry
was an active builder of castles, like others of his contemporaries. .....
What little evidence there is seems to show that Henry de Lacy probably
supported Stephen during the troubles in so far as his activities were
not purely local."
(p 85): "Henry's family remain to be considered. His wife was the
sister of William de Vesci, lord of Alnwick and Malton, a typical baronial
alliance. One sixteenth-century collection fas her name as Aubrey,
though there is not medieval authority for this. It may be nothing more
than another confusion over the two Aubreys through whom the honour
descended to Roger, constable of Chester. His only known son was
Robert II, who married Isabella, the second daughter of Hamelin, earl of
Warenne. By her Robert had no issue, so that on his death on 21 August
1193, the first Lacy linecame to an end."
According to "The Roll of the House Of Lacy", Henry de Lacy's wife was
Albreda (RIN 843) daughter of Sir William Peverel of Nottingham. There
were (at least) 3 generations of William Peverels, so she could possibly
be the daughter of any of them - or possibly the most recent William, to
which I attribute Albreda, may have had a son of the same name who was
actually Albreda's father. Accurate birth and death dates for all the
William Peverels would allow for a better determination of Albreda's
father.
